The best wallpaper for bedrooms in Dubai homes

Bedrooms are the most common wallpaper project we fit, and the one people most often get wrong. The mistake is almost always the same: choosing a pattern that looks beautiful on an A4 sample and overwhelms the room at full scale.

Start with the headboard wall

In most Dubai bedrooms, one papered wall behind the bed does more than four papered walls. You see it when you walk in, you do not see it when you are lying in bed, and it leaves the other three walls to carry wardrobes and windows without competing. It is also the cheapest way to change a room: 10 to 12 sqm rather than 40.

Scale matters more than pattern

A large-scale mural needs distance to read. In a generous villa bedroom it settles beautifully; in a compact apartment bedroom the same design can feel like it is leaning in. As a rule: the less floor space between you and the wall, the smaller the repeat should be.

Colour temperature and Dubai light

Dubai daylight is bright and slightly warm, and most bedrooms here are north or east facing behind solar glass. Cool greens and blues hold their character under that light. Warm sepias and golds can read heavier at midday than they did in the showroom, which is not a reason to avoid them, just a reason to see the sample in the room, at the time of day you actually use it.

Finish: matte, always

Bedrooms are the one room where we push people firmly toward a matte non-woven. Anything with sheen picks up the downlights and shows every imperfection in the plaster behind it. Matte absorbs, which is what you want in a room you are trying to sleep in.
